Color Me Happy...

Rose!

1st of June already! Time for "color me happy" again.

It's collected by Bine from "was eigenes" and Jolijou.

This months color is "rose" and I thought I take that by the word as well.

I photographed this rose last year - they are not in bloom yet this year.

Hopefully we will see some sun in June - May was very cold and wet over here in northern Germany.

Stylist Dietlind Wolf

A workshop with german stylist Dietlind Wolf was my personal highlight of The Hive conference last weekend in Berlin.

I absolutely LOVE her work. It is featured in many big magazines. Have you seen her work in Sweet Paul here and here for example?

Whenever I suddenly stop browsing pages in a magazine; whenever I stop breathing for a second; whenever I totally get lost in a story - then I know FOR SURE I am looking at Dietlinds work.

That's how unique her style is.

And not only her work is amazing - she is also a very nice and humble person.

She freely shared her knowledge and experience with us to spark and inspire our own creativity.

Coming from my own still little experiences with styling product photos for bækka and sometimes feeling a bit puzzled by all the ideas, possibilities and tremendous work and thinking which goes into a good styling BEFORE the camera says "click", I was so relieved to hear from Dielind that THIS IS the way it is!

I am actually really glad, that I do styling AND the photography myself because Dietlind told us how frustrating it can be to come up with the whole concept of a shoot, come up with all the props, designing the props (as she often does), styling the scene ("trust your fingers") and then someone else is coming in and presses the camera button and ALL credits go to the photographer. Yes, there is also still work to do for the photographer until the picture is ready for printing but it is not nice that the creative light is on the picture and the stylist stands - well, sounds a bit dramatic but you know what I mean - a bit in the 'dark'.

But these days Dietlind Wolf more and produces entire productions by herself (concept, styling, photos, story) which she sells then as a package to the magazines so she gets the full credit for her wonderful work.

She showed us her own backdrop designs and how to set up a scene. She had brought different natural treasures she collected over time to style a summer inspiration on an india or maroccan theme inspired board she had made herself.

I loved the creamy whites scheme and all these different natural structures of the shells and rocks and ceramics.

Early Saturday morning I rushed to Berlin to attend the European Blogger conference "The Hive".

Here is what Peggy of "Paula et Paula" and Yvonne of "The girl in the laundromat" - the two bloggers who came up with the whole buzz say about their event - and yes; I think their words sum it up pretty well!

Speakers will help you see how ou can make your blog better, bigger or prettier. We talk blogging for business, we talk blogging simply for fun. We talk about protecting your work and how your blog can support your work.

Yes, I really had a lot of fun meeting new bloggers and seeing again many bloggers I have come to know and like online.

Look at these fun shoes! They were combined with a cheerful blue striped dress and there is only one person who always dresses in such wonderful and happy combinations: It's Anna DaWanda Sterntaler! I love her style!

Of course I also enjoyed the many talks.

I especially loved the gorgeous Tina Fussel of Travelling Mama.

She talked about blogging for the fun of it and how she sees her blog as a portfolio for her and her husbands work as photographers.

Her take on how to balance blogging around family life was very inspirational.

Also Deborah of Kickcan&Conkers. "La vie est belle - oh yeah"

OH YEAH! - She is such a lovely and kind person - living in the South of France with her family.

She told us how she grew her community with Pinterest and Co and how she searches for new and interesting items on Etsy and similar sites.

I think I will try to look a little bit into searching for interesting and fun stuff too because it is a nice way to keep a blog fresh and surprising for readers AND you support another artist.

Just read her advice below and you can imagine how wonderful her talk was.

This is Desiree of Vosgesparis (who organized a Give Away with one of my necklaces last Christmas on her blog) - talking all business and how to get where the big blogs are...unfortunately I could not listen to her because many talks were happening simultaniously and you had to choose which talk you wanted to attend.

12 Parts Of A View - May

I am participating in a project where I photograph the same view over a course of a year.

I decided to document the changes from month to month on a group of trees in the fields I pass by every day for several times.

May's picture (the last in the row below) was shot yesterday late afternoon. It was a hazy day again with a bit of fog lingering around all day long. It had rained a lot the day before yesterday and it is still quite cold right now for this time of the year.

Finally I know, what will grow on the field in front of the trees! Sugar-beets!

It took many weeks for the little leafs to break thru the soil and show but now they are here.

Sparkle Blue!

Underwater on a sunny day...

It is so incredibly calm and peaceful under water - the resistance slows down my movements and gives me a free, floating slow motion feeling. I listen only to my even breath while fully taking in this amazing indescribable beauty.

So relaxing - I wish, i could be at the ocean right now...

What Is Bookcrossing?

Bookcrossing is a worldwide forum for book reading, book exchange and releasing books!

So - here is what happened.

Helga from Holunderblütchen found this absolutely adorable little book called "Elfi und Schmalzmann auf Wanderschaft" while jogging in a park.

Someone had put it in a bag and hung it on a tree so it could be found. By Helga.

And after Helga enjoyed it she decided to sent the book on a "blogger-journey" and I was next!

The small book is written in 1957 and tells about everyday life of a family that raises pets and rescues wild animals in their apartment!

Sounds - äh - a bit strange - but it really is a treasure with its black and white photographs and the glimpse into life short after war.

It brought many fond childhood memories back to me because my father raised a lot of animals too when my brother and I were young in the sixties and seventies.

As much as I would love to keep the book forever I will of course honor Helgas idea and send it to the next blogger: Holunder

Andrea lives in the south of Germany at beautiful Bodensee and loves animals and nature.

The book will be in good hands...

Another fun idea from Tabea and Müllerin Art: Die Frühlingspost!

After December's wonderful Adventspost it was now time to get creative with spring poetry:

"Frühling läßt sein blaues Band

Wieder flattern durch die Lüfte

Süße, wohlbekannte Düfte

Streifen ahnungsvoll das Land

Veilchen träumen schon,

Wollen balde kommen

Horch, von fern ein leiser Harfenton!

Frühling, ja Du bist's!

Dich hab ich vernommen!"

Divided into 9 lines means there will be 9 weeks of Spring in the mail

My 9 partners are:

Blickgewinkelt, Schreibtischwelten, Östlich der Sonne und westlich vom Mond, gabsARTig, Steffi's Papierzauber, GRISCHArte and Frollein Enerim.

Once all cards have arrived it will be summer (I love that thought!!!) and I will show you all cards i have received.

My line was: Streifen ahnungsvoll das Land...

I again used copper tape (like I did for the Advent mail art) and tried to engrave the letters from the back side. It didn't always work perfectly but I think it is readably. Some Masking tape and a little spring bracelet and off to the post office to bring joy!

We are still waiting but it won't be too long now before those sunny little yellow blots will take over the green spaces and a little later will send out their airy parachutists.

I had a truly wonderful day today because i got to pick up my son who has been away on a 7th grade class trip this week.

I had not heard from him since I said good bye to him Monday morning. He didn't answer my messages I left on his cell. Everyone told me I should not worry because that is what boys do when they go on a trip but I was a bit nervous.

Turned out he DID HAVE an amazing time in that forest camp. They went there to help planting young tree plants and clean up the forest. They were a great team and worked a lot. Everybody got along well and he thinks his class teacher is even cooler than he already thought he is.

So - I am really glad all went so well - there was no reason to be nervous. What a great experience for the kids. (He didn't even see my messages...)

And I could have saved the money on the shoes I bought to distract me while waiting for his bus to arrive

(But I like them a lot - I bought the same pair in grey two years ago and have been wearing them all the time)

Back at home we had cake to celebrate, carefully handled (and decontaminated) the forest clothes and ate the first spring herbs.

Then the mail came and I found out that one of my fabric yarn necklaces is part of the new DaWanda Summer Lovebook!

I worked a bit on a new DIY, got inspired by a Moroccan lantern, ate some Mangostane and hopefully will go out for a little walk later because the sun is shining today.

I am truly thankful for this great day.
